Rumours Shut Down

The contract of Araujo at Barcelona extends to 20231, even when reports have stated that he might leave for a release clause fee of €65 million (£54.5m/$74m).

Top sides in Europe like Juventus, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich were reported to show interest in the defender’s situation. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old has said that he is not leaving.

Araujo’s statement while speaking with the media: “I’m happy with all the titles we won this season. Personally, I don’t think it was a great season, especially because of the injury that kept me out for a long time, but I’m happy because I’ve got three titles under my belt, and I’m happy to be here. I assure my continuity; I have a contract until 2031.”

Challenges in 2024-25

The concluded 2024-25 season was a tough one for Araujo because of his fitness issues, which developed from post-Copa America surgery. His absence encouraged the rise of new stars like Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez into the first team. However, his form and fitness were seriously doubted after Barcelona’s shock elimination from the Champions League against Inter Milan.

However, the defender is very confident and added:

“I’m very mature and aware of what I’m capable of. I’ve been very calm about it. I’m in good spirits and also physically. If I’m healthy, I can compete with anyone. I don’t listen to criticism. Maybe my family listens to it a little more, but I don’t pay attention to what people say.”

Araujo continued by saying, “Being out of action for so long bothered me a bit. I always want to play. When you don’t play, maybe you lose a little confidence, but that’s part of your career. I’m at one of the best clubs in the world. I’m one of the team’s captains.”

What Lies Ahead

With the transfer talk behind him, his immediate focus will shift to national duty, as Uruguay prepares to face Paraguay and Venezuela in the June World Cup qualifiers. But, at the club level, next season looks very competitive for him because of other talents like Martinez, Cubarsi, Gracias, and Christensen.
